- My Local Bike Shop (Hub Velo, Clapton) replaced the hub on my almost new, less than 500 miles on-the-clock bike. I didn’t think I’d be visiting them in the first year of owning a new bike. They definitely “don’t make them like they used to”, but they also never used to make them out of carbon fibre, cnc’d aluminium billet and hydroformed aerodynamics.
- Parenthood is mostly about logistics. I remember with fondness when I could simply book a flight from the nearest airport to any popular European country for a weekend. Now it feels like organising a Royals Wedding. How do we get the kids to their grandparents and fit it around their grandfathers 70th birthday without taking them out of school yet still get to our destination before the Saturday wedding we’re due to attend.
- There’s a bit in Mozarts Rondo Alla Turca that mimics the bass part of Gorrillaz Clint Eastwood. It’s taken me a fair few practice sessions to get my separate hands to work the bass and treble parts together. Pianists are very impressive.
- Saturday’s 6.30AM baking slot. Fully utilising the quiet time before the kids are fully up. I’ve practiced baking stollen a few times before but thought it wise to practice again before visiting family friends next weekend and baking it again. I emptied most of the pack of icing sugar over the top of the vast bread, causing a small icing-sugar snowstorm in the kitchen area. Icing sugar is OK to inhale right?
