- Mark has also been at the kitchen building us a storage bench out of ply. Yes, I’m the ply guy. He used an oversize sheet of birch-faced ply so the grain of the wood runs perfectly from seat top to drawer fronts, dreamy.
- The kids have loved putting things in the drawers and Liz and I have loved being able to get rid of the ikea-play-kitchen that took up most of the expensive extension we built.
- Dropped back into the deep end at work. First day back, straight into a planning meeting to prepare for a leadership presentation on the Wednesday. It went pretty well thanks to heroic efforts from the lovely team I work in. I got to apply some “leadership” and “Coaching” principles, but feel like I could probably talk less to make sure I get my point across. Leadership is hard.
- Busuu’s summer party went well, with a well-hard quiz and booze-up on a roof terrace. I left at a reasonable time filled with sugar energy from mocktails and managed to return home on the cusp of when I should have my bike lights on. I’d obviously forgotten them.
- It was LB’s (lizbadders’s) bday this weekend.
- I love baking. You just see a recipe and follow instructions. So simple. Liz’s bday cake prep went well with a few creative twists. i.e. I didn’t do ameretti, went for a full double cream topping and added a full wealth of sliced almonds on top as they’re liz’s fave. But also, I always forget how satisfying and easy it is to make delicious lemon curd. It’s just lemon, sugar and eggs (and butter for the lovers).
- We had a truly Tottenham Dad birthday cele-party in the park with plenty of posh-crisps, nosecco and sabra hummus. Not great weather but the kids went full wild-child making “swimming pools” out of mud then chucking in their socks and shoes.
- Finished the week with an afternoon day trip to Folkstone and 100 percent recommend it. 1hr train, Plenty of kid focused play areas, Art-based trails, Fun on every corner, a few Scrawny locals with love-hate tattoo’s talking of cutting people up too-loud on their phones, fresh fish and chips, blue skies, stoney beaches, idyliic english getaway, back in-time for bed time.
