• I have said this before, but the kids inexplicably don’t like Lasagne. Even when we make the most delicious recipe available, the Ottolenghi one with sausage and mince. This led to a momentous occasion where earlier this week, Lizzy made lasagne for us while the kids were at school. We had the best time eating it, such decadence for a Monday lunchtime.
  • Standing at the gates/doors of the afterschool club with the kids I’m always overhearing people speaking to their kids saying “We have to get back for your tutoring”. Is every kid having extra tuition nowadays? Is it a way of making sure that people with money can always outperform people without? Is it a way of keeping kids away from their parents for longer? Who knows.
  • Our middle kid has started helping out by doing chores. The other day she got up with me to empty the dishwasher and she’s helped take the bins out. She gets a virtual £1 in her savings account for every extra chore completed and so far she has five whole pounds. Im very proud.
  • We’ve been starting a new way of working in my org at Busuu which is much higher trust and has much smaller teams. The people that do the work have much less overhead and can test creating new things much more effectively. In our first proper week this week, everyone who participated thought it was incredibly messy: “chaotic is not equal to scrappy”. but we did get a lot of things done.
  • The start dates, insurance and things have been finalised for our new house. I personally can’t wait to start drying out the years of damp and turning this decrepid house into a comfy home. In anticipation (and with a thought to my year goals of trying to use my phone even less) I’ve subscribed to house & garden magazine. A physical instagram.
