- I attended an exceptional joint 148th birthday party in the basement bar “lucky pig” in Fitzrovia - As well as friends I see regularly, there were some people I only see at that particular party. This year we discussed what activities our kids do, our street WhatsApp’s, and LTN’s. Typical topics of a centrist-dad focused comedy set.
- Banksy has drawn a tree. The tree has drawn crowds of people including a sweaty me as I diverted a lunchtime run to go see it. There was a guy drawing the crowd and the scene and selling the pictures.
- I offer our grateful Postie a just-baked cookie, straight from the oven. Peanut and chocolate, he turned up exactly at the right time.
- Excitedly got to tell a person at work that they’re being promoted with a 30% pay rise. Being a manager is sometimes great.
- The deer in Epping are plentiful, there were herds of them supping at the waterhole as I rode past out to Essex on a beautiful morning. I aimed to cover 100km and I struggled for the last 30km as I turned back toward home and realised the strengths of the headwind. With just 5km to go I was riding so slow I had to stop at a Walthamstow market and buy a hilariously overpriced donut (£5) to power me back.
- Late addition: the sight of our youngest and her first experience propelling herself through water was an instant memory-bank moment. The goggled grin and the gleeful shout of “dad i’m swimming!” was heart-melting. Over the next few years we’ll start slowly removing the multitude of buoyancy aids needed to make this moment happen.
