After 2020's soul was ripped out by a global pandemic, I decided to try and plan some milestones in 2021. You can see the original posts here [link]. Yes, they're awfully written and not coherent. You're looking into my raw notes here.

Last week we passed 3 months since the start of 2021 and I wanted to check in on my goals and course adjust. When I set out in 2021, I thought just outlining these vague life goals would be enough to help me be more purposeful. So they're not very measurable. If I was setting goals as a Product Manager, I'd be quite a bit more stringent but I'm not going to apply OKR's to my real life, that would be ridiculous.

I've applied some rough grouping here to make it easier to read.

Goal 1: Actually become better at product leadership.

Set a strong vision for Sphere at work. Be the go-to for Product in the org.

Obviously this is hard to measure progression. But, I feel like the last 3 months have been super productive for me becoming more confident speaking product vision and working with other leaders to build out product strategy. My emphasis has been to not lose sight of the relationships I build directly with peers. Something that was noted from my time at Peanut was how different my relationships were between 'stakeholders' and peers. Something I've tried to manage better at Sphere and will continue to dedicate time to.

Don’t lose touch with design.

I feel I've not progressed on this. As I've been working as a product manager for the last 6 years I've mostly been attending product management events/meetups (such as product peers/product tank) I've not managed to get a handle on how best to continue to keep up to date in design.

Goal 2: Get better at being open about the things I'm doing

Weeknotes. You reckon you could do a full year?

I wanted to start writing about what I've been doing and getting more confident at showing people the things I've been doing. I don't hugely want to be someone that tweets out quips about product just to get likes, but I feel as I grow it should be easy to build a network of people who trust my opinion when it comes to product leadership. That involves being more consistent with my point of view and taking a stance.
